Agreed that health facilities in India are not good but just because a lot of doctors are compelled to administer & monitor chemotherapy to their patients dont qualify them as oncologists.
I chanced upon the only trained oncologist-gynaecologist at Tata Medical Centre, rajarhat kolkata recently & realized the huge difference in approach & the level of expertise he exhibited than the earlier ones I had gotten a chance to interact with.
Reading Siddhartha Mukherjee's prize winning book, I became more cautious & realized the chemo drugs like cisplatin that are still merrily administered in india-was a drug(& many other such drugs) which existed in the US during the 70s
Ok, so we have very few genuine oncologits, unless we count the ones at mumbai's tata memorial hospital & everyone can't afford the money or time to go there & we have outdated drugs.
Not to mention that each cycle which consists of atleast 3 such subcycles cost nothing less than 3.5 lakhs
