HEY YOU, ARE YOU DOIN' ANYTHING ABOUT THE FLOODS?

So conditions worsen and we expect to see the pics of submerged huts, stranded people on the front pages of our newspapers for the next few days. We turn sober for sometime, we even discuss it at our office lunches and shake our heads in genuine agony. But when we are approached by various groups for donations/contributions, we hide behind excuses of ‘oh, all these NGOs etc are corrupt, none of the money will trickle down’ and comfortably numb we remain behind these thick curtains that we draw over ourselves.

And then media, like a Casanova falls for another new woman, another new story that sprawls itself arrogantly on the front pages & news on floods get relegated to tiny jottings somewhere in a corner in page 6. Public memory being short, its easier for us to make ourselves believe that ‘everything is fine now’ and there’s definitely no need to give away our hard earned money for such causes…

Surely, we could do better than that…
